Fish Don’t Drive: Take Action for Yuba Salmon
January 18, 2016It's time to remove the unnecessary, salmon and steelhead blocking, wasteful, evaporation pond, and sediment trap called Englebright Dam. More effective, reliable and safer energy, water, and flood protection alternatives are now available. It's time to invest in the future, not stick band-aids on the past.
Please sign the letter telling California Gov. Jerry Brown and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker that burning tons of diesel fuel to endlessly drive salmon and steelhead around impassable dams is not a solution, does not achieve federal recovery goals for "wild" and "self-sustaining" fish recovery, and exacerbates climate change.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) proposal to truck fish around an impassable dam on the Yuba River is a misguided plan that, by their own definition, can't lead to real fisheries recovery and diverts hundreds of millions of tax dollars away from implementing real recovery solutions.
Please tell our resource managers that you reject trapping and trucking fish as a viable recovery tool and support alternatives to modify or replace dams and enable real, self-sustaining fish passage and recovery.
