Wild Fish Conservancy is hiring a GIS/IT Analyst

The Wild Fish Conservancy, located in Duvall, Washington is a private non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the preservation, protection, and restoration of the Northwest’s native fish and the ecosystems they depend on. For more information on the work we’ve done, please visit our website at www.wildfishconservancy.org. We are hiring a full time GIS/IT Analyst.

The GIS/IT Analyst is responsible for GIS data creation, acquisition and analysis with knowledge of cartographic principles for production of hardcopy and digital deliverables. The position also includes maintaining a network of approximately 20 workstations/laptops and domain server along with administering off-site hosting of the organization’s email, website, and FTP site. The successful candidate will also be able to provide technology support and assistance in various degrees to facilitate field efforts and have the ability to apply a diverse set of GIS techniques to ecological studies.

The successful candidate must be able to work independently, manage multiple projects, possess effective communication skills and be flexible to accommodate unforeseen projects. An understanding of basic ecological and biological principles is preferred.

Wild Fish Conservancy currently maintains a Plone based website and interactive mapping site; the successful candidate will have experience with Plone or be willing to learn how to manage a Plone based website.

Primary GIS tasks: Data needs assessment, acquisition, creation, and analysis; creation of field and presentation quality cartographic products; import, post-processes, and integrate remote sensing and GPS data with project GIS data; some fieldwork opportunities.

Primary IT tasks: Network administrator for an NT server, print server, network storage, backup, troubleshooting, maintenance and support for desktop and remote laptops. Other hardware including printers, fax, copier, and DSL line. Candidate is also responsible for managing and maintaining offsite internet hosting for FTP, web and email.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess, acquire, create, and analyze geospatial data for multiple projects.
  • Integrate GPS, ADP, and remote sensing data
  • Produce digital and hard copy deliverables 
  • Work with supporting software products (Microsoft Office suite including Access, TerraSync, etc., ArcGIS 9.2 and ERDAS Imagine)

 

Required Skills/Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, natural resources, ecology, geology or related degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in using ESRI ArcGIS 9.2 software including 3D Analyst, Network Analyst, and Spatial Analyst and ERDAS Imagine
  • Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and manage multiple projects.
  • A basic understanding of the ecology of aquatic ecosystems in the Pacific Northwest.

Preferred Skills

 

  • Experience using Total Station and Auto Level.
  • Experience with GIS modeling and modeling tools (AML, VBA, Model Builder)
  • Coursework in hydrology, engineering, or geomorphology.
